We have arrived and are moved in. Our adventure took an unexpected turn on Monday when we were notified just north of Brownfield that our flight out of Lubbock had been cancelled. I called Hess travel and they told us that United had rebooked us for a flight on Tuesday out of AMARILLO; the next available flight out of Lubbock wasn’t until Wednesday. She was able to book on us a flight out of Midland so we turned the car around and drove there. One problem: the flight out of Midland connected in Dallas before going to Minneapolis before going to Minot. We didn’t land until 10:45 pm (having left the hotel at 5 am in Hobbs). It was a very long day but everybody was a trooper and we made it. Well, except our luggage. Or so we thought. It seems that because we started on American but finished on Delta, we were the bottom of the pecking order because they changed flights without letting us know but our luggage continued on the original itinerary. As a result, when we landed, no luggage. What we didn’t know was that it had all arrived on an earlier flight and was sitting behind a counter somewhere at the Minot airport. No big drama – we were able to straighten things and get all our stuff.
The movers showed up bright an early on Tuesday but it was raining and absolutely miserable. It was so bad that the crew chief shut things down around 1:00 with about another three hours of work to do. It actually worked out well because Grandma Tonini and Aunt Sheryl showed up about that time so it gave Raena a chance to start unloading boxes (and setting up her kitchen) without ALL of the boxes being in the house. Grandma and Aunt Sheryl were godsends – Grandma still works like a horse and we were able to get 98% of the house unpacked before they left today.
The house has really come together nicely. The TV room is separated from the living room by the kitchen area so the kids can be doing stuff with the TV and Mom and I can sit in the living room and not be too distracted. The kids took their inaugural swim the other night – the pump wasn’t working so the water wasn’t heated. It was pretty cold but they weren’t going to let them keep them from getting in. Mark, the landlord, came by this afternoon while we were at church and they got it replumbed so it should be good to go here in a few days.
