I just put Mom and Carson on their return flight to Texas. We are under a blizzard warning until tomorrow so I was hoping they would be able to get out of town before the weather deteriorated further. Turns out, they have been delayed leaving Minot but it is because of wind in Denver. As it stands now, they should still be able to make their connection in Denver.
I thoroughly enjoyed having them here for the weekend. They got in late Thursday night so they were able to see the city lights as we drove home from the airport. On Friday, they were greeted with a couple of inches of snow while we did some running around. Our first stop was to the school district offices in downtown Minot to get Corina and Carson registered. Across the street was the Central Campus which houses the underclassmen. We had a nice tour – the highlight of which was the two stuffed deer heads in one of the stairwells. Ya gotta love North Dakota! We would later joke that Corina will be the only one of our children to attend an inner-city school. From there, we headed over to the Jim Hill Junior High Campus and Carson was able to see his new school. We stuck our head in the gym as we were getting ready to play and we saw the kids playing broom hockey while they scooted around on furniture dollies. Carson loved it! I had to go back to work for a meeting so I dropped Mom and Carson at the hotel for a couple of hours until our appointment to see the house at 5:00.
The kitchen is a little smaller than Mom expected it to be but it has an island so that should give her the additional room she wants. The kitchen pantry still doesn’t have shelves and the closets don’t have clothes rods but the landlord is pretty confident I can move in on 1 April. It will be nice not be in a hotel the last two months. When we finished there, we headed over to the mall to see if we could find Carson some baseball cleats. The problem is we don’t know yet if he can have metal cleats or if he still needs plastic cleats so left empty handed. We went to dinner and then Carson and I went to the home-theater in the lobby of the hotel and watched an old James Bond movie (Live and Let Die).
On Saturday we headed over to the North Dakota State Fairgrounds for the Home and Garden show. As we saw a few displays in the lobby, we realized it was really geared to home improvement projects so not really applicable to us and we opted out. In the same building was a flea market so walked around there for a little bit before heading back to the mall. There is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz that was just released and came highly recommended. I loved this quote at the end:
Glinda: I always knew you had it in you.
Oz: Greatness?
Glinda: No, better. Goodness.
After the movie, I grabbed a pizza, Carson and I went for a swim in the indoor pool (duh, of course it is indoor), and then we watched the second Sherlock Holmes movie.
We had a lazy Sunday – church doesn’t start until 1. We did the first two hours and then came back to the hotel so Mom and Carson could change for their flight. It is different being the new kid in a big ward compared to a small branch where your family makes up half the YM/YW program. It was harder for Carson today than I thought it would but I know he will do fine.
