Sheryl's Visit
Sheryl had a business trip to Albuquerque last weekend so she took advantage of being in the general area to come pay us a little visit. We put her to work on Saturday to permanently install the basketball hoop. (We had one of those portable units but in the high winds, it kept blowing over and it was only a matter of time before it fell on one of the cars.)
Like Mom, Sheryl wanted to visit Alamogordo so she and I made the trip on Monday. Unlike my trip with Mom, this was an "out-and-back" in one day. Another difference was instead of just taking pictures of the White Sands, Sheryl and I ventured out for a five mile hike across the White Sands.
We had not really planned on that so other than the two water bottles, we weren't really prepared. She had a hat on and I flipped up the collar on my polo shirt so we managed not to get too burned. According to the map at the trail head, I guesstimated the trail to only be three miles long – I am glad I miscalculated because I don’t know if we would have taken it on had we known it was five miles long!
We got back in time for Carson’s last regular
season game. We played the same team
that we beat three days before 21-1 so I didn’t see a need to throw him more
than one inning. However, he only needed
eight pitches to get out of the first inning so I agreed to let him go another
one. Jeremiah came in and threw three
strong innings and we had the lead going into the sixth. We hadn’t played well as a team and even
though we were already assured the top seed for the play offs, Coach Dan
thought it was important that we go for the win so Carson re-entered as a pitcher to get the
save.
